Young Scolla: Lol no. Nothing against the title “Conscious Rapper” or anyone who may feel that they personally fall into that category but I feel that I make “Life Music”. Everything that I write about comes directly from my life and my environment. I make that because I only know how to be myself and I feel that people can Identify with honesty. There are more people in the world who can Identify with the common man and his troubles and successes than a person who is so far gone from their realities. Everyone isn’t a millionaire and everyone isn’t a drug dealer, but I’ve live on both sides of the line (well not as far as a millionaire lol) and I can understand the stories of people from both arenas of life.

ScollasWord: Who is TGL, and how did the group get the name?
TGL is the Tru Great Lakers, it consists of Four rappers, Young Gilly, Q, Manny D. Enigma, and enginer J- Trendz. The name came from Q and Gil. It came from Michigans lakes (not the actual nba lakers). We want to represent the whole state and not just our city, so Gil and Q figured that was the best way and name.
SW: How long has the group been officially making music?
Well we all been doin this since elementary. As a group we been making "TGL" music only for around 3 months. Which is pretty cool, since we been able to compete with other ppl who been doing they thing longer then us. Its cool that we have as many fans as we do from the start.
SW: How would you describe your groups sound/style of music?
Our music is just stuff that young guys like us love. Girls, clothes, dreams, the occasional blunt or two and just having fun.
SW: Name 3 other artists that motivate you guys, what do you like about them?
Jay Z, Lil Wayne and Eminem simply changed hip hop. eminem has a sick flow and puts himself in his music which is something we want to do. Wayne is a great performer and isnt affraid to try new things, he is one of the most creative guys out.
SW: What is your favorite type of song to make?Some laidback fly shit that you can ride to.- Manny
Some classic shit that is timeless-Gilly
Some old school mixed wit a lil fuck on-Q
Something that you can turn up and just vibe with - J-trendz
SW: Do you think there is an advantage to being in a group?
Yes and No. The advantage is that we have many ideas and concepts coming 4 different ways. We feed off each other energy and challege each other to be better. And other advantage is that each member brings new fans.
Disadvantage is sometimes with 4 guys its hard to agree on somethings. And other advantage is that each member brings new fans.
SW: Who are some other artists/producers/engineers your working with?
We'll we have worked with Chavis Chandler. We plan on doing a collab with the Freshmen and that track should be real dope. Rapper Treezen is another artist we are collabing with. As far as producers and engineers we not doing many collabs with. J- Trendz and Gill are also real dope producers so they always got something for us.
SW: Who do you think are some of the artists to look in 2010?
Well us of course lol. Besides us theres alot of local cats like, Chavis Chandler, Buzz Burrus, Asston Kusher, and Jwan. On a bigger scale Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa, and alot more cats. oh and Q of tgl lol .....*group looks at david ruffin (Q) and tell him to fuck on*
SW: How Do You Feel About the Internet and the role it plays in the music industry?
The net is promotion all day non-stop. it hurts artist alot tho with all the illeagal downloading and music leaking before they suppose to. but for up and coming guys like us it is a great thing.
We like to say thanks for the interview man. and be on the look out for our mixtape "Written By the Lake" dropping this March.
